Ellen was born in China in late 1999 and adopted by Bill and Gail Goddard in May, 2001. Ellen ended her life on Monday, January 16, 2017, after struggling with a mental health condition - a chronic eating disorder - since 7th grade.
Those who knew Ellen appreciated her lovely smile, playful sense of humor and kind demeanor; she was known for her grace of movement on the tennis courts, soccer fields and ski slopes. Ellen was proud to have been on the honor roll each academic year since 6th grade at Kingswood Oxford School and had hoped to pursue forensic science in college.
Besides her parents, Bill and Gail Goddard, Ellen is survived by her brother, Sam, her uncle Burke Wasserman and cousins Brooke and Camden, her uncle and aunt Terry and Monica Goddard and cousin Kevin, her uncle Tim Goddard, her godparents John and Connie Adams-Keilch, and many extended Wasserman, Cook and White family members.
If one of Ellen's legacies could be for people to start talking about mental health conditions such as eating disorders, more people will receive the support they need to fight to be healthy. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ellen's name to the National Eating Disorders Association (nationaleatingdisorders.org) or to the Town of Glastonbury - Youth and Family Services, 321 Hubbard St., Glastonbury, CT 06033 or to the memorial fund established in Ellen's name at Kingswood Oxford School to support its annual service trip to Tobati, Paraguay (http://www.teamtobati.org/ellen-goddard-memorial-fund.html).
Calling hours will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury, CT. A private family memorial service will be scheduled separately. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.glastonburyfuneral.com
