Doris Field Armstead, 88, of Glastonbury, passed away April 1, 2015 at her home. She was born in Bristol, a daughter of the late William and Effie (Doherty) Field and was a graduate of the East Hartford High School, Hartford College for Women, Vassar College, and earned her Master's in Education from Yale University. She was an English Teacher for several area high schools. Doris was a member of Buckingham Congregational Church. She was an ardent college basketball fan. Doris Field Armstead, 88, of Glastonbury, passed away April 1, 2015 at her home. She was born in Bristol, a daughter of the late William and Effie (Doherty) Field and was a graduate of the East Hartford High School, Hartford College for Women, Vassar College, and earned her Master's in Education from Yale University. She was an English Teacher for several area high schools. Doris was a member of Buckingham Congregational Church. She was an ardent college basketball fan. She enjoyed giving back and volunteered for many organizations including: the Glastonbury Historical Society, the American Red Cross, was a board member of Glastonbury VNA. She lovingly passed that sense of civic duty on to her children. She was a loving and supportive wife and nurturing mother, to her four children and many others. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She was predeceased in 1999 by her beloved husband George B. Armstead. She is survived by her loving children, Sarah "Sally" Begina and her husband John of Cheshire, her sons, George Armstead and his significant other Suzanne Peterson of Derry, New Hampshire and Daniel Armstead and his wife Jean of Glastonbury, six grandchildren Heather Dunn and her husband Roger, Patrick, Andrew and Peter Begina, Joshua Christiansen and his wife Karen and Alissa Christiansen, two great-grandchildren Dagan Christiansen and Hannah Dunn. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Faith Christiansen in 2004. Funeral services and burial are private at her request. Doris would ask memorial donations in her memory be made to The Connecticut River Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, C/O The United Bank, 1009 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT 06033.
